Description
Colour pencil and pastels on A3 size paper. Many hours^^My mom loved that film ... and I decided to make a drawing for her
^close up (when it was still a wip, but the face is finished)

(c) to girlwithapearlearringmovie.com... I got permission from there for using the wallpaper as reference, I hope it's enough, I can't get Scarlett Johannson permission.. not doing commercial use anyway, just personal.

and your work is great
just brighter highlights like he did
(but i know it´s hard with pastels)
05/12/07 @635
thomasM: I have to recognise I couldn't get those highlights, for example in the pearl... I need more practice
haha I wish I was like Vermeer, but unfortunately, it's like I'm in kilometre 1 and he's in km 2000 lol^^

I love the slight blur her left eye has, I used to use Colour pencils and I know how hard it is to achieve the right colours, but you've nailed it, very earthy feel to the portrait . . . . .
+10, wish I could give you more . . . .

But I was so scared of using a dark pastel on it and destroying the hair colour I created, which was quite difficult to achieve
The hair and earring killed me >.<
Thanks James and Baka!

Also your choice in theme makes this a superb piece. Rembrandt & Vermeer are the only two painters in my opinion to ever have achieved such a fantastic symbiosis with light.
In that aspect you may have chosen a piece that was perhaps too difficult. But nonetheless, your choice of painter/painting says much abou your guts.
I think indeed that elite would have been unfair at this point, but the choice of material (in this case the pastel) makes me speechless.

I have a technical question: have you fixed finished work? I have fixative and after fixing my last drawing (done on black paper with hard pastels) went so dark that I have to make many corrections to make it look good again :/ do you have same problem?

You've sharp eyes.....looking forward to get more good works from you
